WPT Borgata Poker Open shifting online 2021

The World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open, normally held annually at the Borgata Hotel and Casino will go ahead this year online.

Earlier this week the WPT and BetMGM Poker announced that the WPT Online Borgata Poker Open will be held on the Partypoker US Network in New Jersey, where entry will be limited to residents of the Garden State. Since it’s being held on the Partypoker Network sign up will also be open to New Jersey online poker players who play on BetMGM and Borgata Poker.

When does World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open begin?

The Online Borgata Poker Open will run from September 12-21, but the full schedule has not yet been released. The only event on the schedule that has been made public is the Borgata Online Open Main Event. It will run from September 19-21 with a $3,200 +$300 buy-in and a $1 million guarantee.

BetMGM VP of Gaming Matthew Sunderland introduced the event and said in a release “BetMGM has found a great partner in WPT and are excited to work together again to bring another online Main Tour event to New Jersey. Our last Main Tour event together was a huge success, and we look forward to offering players in New Jersey a piece of the $1 million prize pool.”

The other Main Tour event Sunderland is referring to is the WPT Online Poker Open. It was held online in New Jersey last December. It also had a $3,500 buy-in and drew 395 entrants for a $1.2 million prize pool. Soheb Porbandarwala won the event and cashed $239,820.

The WPT and the Borgata shifting this event online comes as no surprise. The Borgata, which houses the largest poker room in Atlantic City, was the first to reopen when pandemic restrictions in New Jersey were reduced. However, despite tables reopening to cash games, multi-table tournaments have not yet resumed at the Borgata.
