Maurice Hawkins WSOP Circuit record reclaimed

Maurice Hawkins is once again Lord of the Rings for the WSOP Circuit after retaking the title from Valentin Vormicu earlier this week.

Over the last few years, Hawkins and Vormicu have traded the title back and forth, with Vormicu getting a leg up on Hawkins after winning two rings last year.

Last month at Harrah’s Cherokee Hawkins won his 12th career WSOP Circuit Championship ring which tied him for the most won alongside Vormicu. Earlier this week, he passed Vormicu by winning a 13th ring.

Maurice Hawkins Circuit wins

Hawkins’ latest win came at the WSOP Circuit series at the Horseshoe Tunica. He was the last man standing in a $400 No-Limit Hold’em Monster Stack tournament. Hawkin’s outlasted the rest of a 432-player field to cash $31,372 and earn his 13th career ring.

In the record-setting tournament Hawkin’s ended up facing two-time ring winner Hamid Izadi heads-up for the tournament title. Hawkins trailed in chips when heads-up play began but he chipped away at Izadi’s stack to eventually overtake him.

On the final hand of the tournament Izadi was all-in with A-4 and needed some help against Hawkins’ pocket Jacks. He didn’t get any help when the board showed 10h-3h-Kc-6d-2c.

The $31,000 and change Hawkins won bumps his lifetime live-poker earnings to just over $3.7 million. From that just over $1.7 million has come on the WSOP Circuit which is also a record.
