Largest New York poker room opens as online legislation lags

While poker players in New York continue to wait for state legislators to legalize online poker, at least they have a new venue to play live poker in.

The largest poker room in New York state opened this week at the Resorts World Catskills Casino. The new 7000 square foot poker room will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with 20 tables and 180 seats.

The poker room will offer the usual poker variations including Texas Hold’em in no limit and limit stakes, and 7 Card Stud and Omaha in both pot limit and high limit stakes.

What does the large New York poker room offer?

The new poker room will have the latest amenities required for any poker player such as an in-room cashier, USB chargers at every seat, an outside smoking area accessible from the poker room, complimentary beverages and 27 55-inch TV’s throughout the room.

The poker room will also have numerous bad beat jackpots, starting at quad Fives.

To commemorate the opening of the new poker room, the Resorts World Catskills Casino is holding a Mega Stakes Poker tournament later this month from August 20-25. It will also feature the room’s official ribbon cutting on August 20.

The tournament will have a $300 buy-in with a $100,00 guaranteed prize pool.

Meantime, poker players in New York will keep one eye on their hole cards and one eye on the legislative calendar. Online poker and gambling has been delayed several times, even as New Jersey continues to lead the country in adoption.
