Before the 2013 World Series of Poker began, it was reported the Doyle Brunson would not be competing in this year’s series. The pro has competed for decades and would surely have been missed but now, news sources are reporting that Texas Dolly is at the series and competing!
It was earlier this year that the pro took to Twitter and tweeted that he physically could not compete due to the long hours of the tournament events and would be sticking to cash game play. However, it seems as though the pro could not stay away and is currently competing in the $50,000 Players Championship.
The event began just a few days ago and Brunson was smiling and ready to play when the event kicked off. Brunson took to Twitter and commented on the event stating: “Time closing in on the 50k. I’ve got so many bets my head is spinning. These young guys evidently think I can’t compete. #wewillseeCHIPREESE.”
Brunson is the epitome of poker and signifies what the game truly is about. The seventy nine year old has experience to back up his game play and continues to be a well-respected player in the industry. Players and fans are excited to see the old pro back in action and hopefully Brunson will be able to earn one more World Series of Poker bracelet to add to his collection.
The tournament will be back in action later today and as of now, Brunson sits in 12th with chip count. There are just over 100 players left and Brunson is currently sitting pretty. Jonathan Duhamel is currently the chip leader but Brunson is not too far behind. It will be interesting to see how the tournament continues and if Brunson will be able to hold on and make the final table.
