2020 Poker Hall of Fame nominees announced

A list of poker legends and poker builders fills the list if this year’s Poker Hall of Fame nominees.

The World Series of Poker announced the 10 finalists for induction into the Hall for 2020 late last week. This year’s final 10 includes three first-time finalists.

Who are the 2020 Poker Hall of Fame nominees? 

Making the final ballot for the first time this year were Patrik Antonius, Isai Scheinberg and the poker commentating duo of Lon McEachern and Norman Chad.

Antonius, from Finland, has racked up more than $12 million in live tournament earnings during a successful poker career. He’s been a mainstay at high stakes cash games and first made a mark on the poker world in the mid 2000s with solid showings at several WPT and EPT events. Antonius just turned 40 this year making it the first time he was eligible for the Hall.

Scheinburg made an identifiable mark on the poker world when he founded PokerStars. The world’s largest poker site helped initiate the first online poker boom not only by bring poker to the masses, but also by bringing Chris Moneymaker to the World Series of Poker through a satellite.

McEachern and Chad have been behind the mic for ESPN’s broadcasts of the World Series of Poker for nearly 20 years. They made the call of several infamous WSOP moments on ESPN, including Chris Moneymaker’s run.

The remaining seven finalists have all appeared on the Hall of Fame ballot before. They include:

Four-time WSOP bracelet winner Eli Elezra,

Three-time WSOP bracelet winner Antonio Esfandiari,

Six-time WSOP bracelet winner, and 2000 WSOP Main Event champion Chris Ferguson,

Six-time WSOP bracelet winner Ted Forrest,

Four-time WSOP bracelet winner Mike Matusow,

Poker tournament director and current Executive Tour Director of the WPT Matt Savage, and

Four-time WSOP bracelet winner, and 1996 WSOP Main Event Champion Huck Seed.

This year there will only be one new inductee into the Hall. This year’ inductee will be announced on December 30 prior to the start of the 2020 WSOP Main Event heads-up final at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
