Steve O’Dwyer wins Super High Roller at 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK

The 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK began earlier this week at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club in Nottingham, United Kingdom. The first big winner at the series was Steve O’Dwyer in the £25,000 No-Limit Hold’em Super High Roller.

A 51-player field took part in the event, compiling a £1,236,750 prize pool, or about $1.6 million US. For the win O’Dwyer cashed £450,000, or $585,000 US. That was his third big tournament win of the year and bumped his all-time live poker earnings up to $24.3 million.

O’Dwyer entered the final table of the big-money tournament sixth in chips out of nine players. He got his stack growing with an early double-up after his ace-king trumped Niall Farrell’s queen-10 suited spades when neither player hit anything on the board. He then went on a torrid run that saw him eliminate every other player at the table.

Thanks to his improbable run, O’Dwyer entered heads-up against Fabrizio Gonzalez with a massive 7-to-1 chip lead. Heads-up play was short and sweet and on the final hand O’Dwyer was all-in pre-flop with Jd-9h against Gonzalez’s pocket aces. The board rolled out Jc-10s-9s-Js-Qc, giving O’Dwyer a full house and the tournament title. For second place, Gonzalez received £286,750, or roughly $372,000 US.

The main event at the LIVE MILLIONS UK has already begun. The £5,300 No-Limit Hold’em tournament began on Sunday and is scheduled to run until October 7. A 995-player field bought into the tournament but after Day 1 only 474 players remained in the hunt for the guaranteed £5-million prize pool. Exact payouts won’t be known until the conclusion of Day 2 as rebuys remained available.

The chip leader at the outset of Day 2 was Alexandre Gomes with 6.215 million chips. A few well-known names are still in the running including Marcel Luske, Boris Becker and Adrian Mateos. O’Dwyer also survived to reach Day 2 with 425,000 chips.
