PokerStars Does Away with EPT

Online poker giant PokerStars has decided to do away with the European Poker Tour and create a new gaming option titled PokerStars Live.

PokerStars is known for being a trend setter in the online poker industry. The brand is constantly changing their offerings, providing new tournaments, live events, software upgrades and more. PokerStars continues to listen to players and makes changes based on what everyone wants to see and participate in. just recently, PokerStars announced that they are going to be doing away with the European Poker Tour and changing it up to be known as Poker Live with two categories; the PokerStars Championships and the PokerStars Festivals.

Getting Started

The announcement of the changes were made during the Barcelona Main Event, a European Poker Tour tournament. Starting next year, the brand will be restructuring events of what was formally known as the EPT into live events that either fall under the Championships category or the Festivals category. The very first event will fit into the Championships category which will take place from the 6th to the 14th of January. This event will be taking the place of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

Championships will last from ten to eleven days and will conclude with a main event that has a buy-in of $5,000. Destinations that have been confirmed by PokerStars as stops for Championship events include Monte Carlo, Panama, Barcelona and Macau. More stops are expected to be announced in the near future.

Second Category of Gaming

The PokerStars Festivals category will be a shorter event option, lasting around six to seven days each. The main event of this tournament type will have a buy-in of $1,000 to $1,500 making the stop much more affordable than the Championships. Only two stops have been announced for this portion thus far and include London and New Jersey.

Official Press Release

To give players an exact idea of what to expect, PokerStars has released an official press release on the matter. The press release stated:

The PokerStars Festival events will actually begin this year with a stop at the Resorts Casino Hotel in New Jersey. This event will begin on the 29th of October and continue until the 6th of November. More than 50 tournaments will take place during the stop with affordable buy-ins at $100 and going as high as $5,000. There will also be a festival for casino gamers with blackjack, video poker, slots and roulette on offer.

These new changes have been well-received by players as everyone seems to be excited about having something new to enjoy with stops ranging outside of the Europe instead of in specific areas as it once was with the EPT.
