Justin Bonomo wins Super High Roller Bowl

Justin Bonomo recorded another seven-figure cash earlier this week, his third of 2018, topping an impressive field in the 2018 Super High Roller Bowl.

The $300,000 big money buy-in tournament drew 48 players that included some of the biggest and richest names in poker, including Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Erik Seidel, Christoph Vogelsang, Stephen Chidwick and Adrian Mateos. Bonomo’s prize for outlasting such an impressive field was a cool $5 million.

Bonomo started the final day of the Super High Roller Bowl in a near tie for second in chips with Negreanu. The chip leader was Mikita Badziakouski. The chip lead turned out to be trouble for Badziakouski, who tried to pull a bluff against Negreanu with only four players remaining and ran into a straight that dropped him to last in chips. He was sent to the rail by Bonomo a few hands later when he matched top pair with Bonomo but was outkicked. Badziakouski still pocketed $1.6 million for fourth place.

Jason Koon was the next player sent packing in third place. The hand that essentially did him in came against Bonomo. Koon was holding K-9 and Bonomo had K-Q when the flopped showed K-Q-9. Both players went all-in and after the board didn’t help Koon improve, Bonomo vaulted into the chip lead while Koon was reduced to the short stack. Koon was eliminated shortly after in third place and received $2.1 million.

Bonomo tops Daniel Negreanu heads-up

It came down to Bonomo and Negreanu heads-up with Bonomo in a strong position with a near 4-to-1 chip lead on his opponent. Negreanu tried to battle back, but the chip deficit was too much in the end.

On the final hand Negreanu was all-in with 8c-7d on a 9h-7h-6d flop, but needed some help against Bonomo’s pocket nines. The Ks on the turn and the 6s on the river did not help Negreanu and gave Bonomo a full house to win the tournament. For second place, Negreanu received $3 million.

The $5-million prize bumped Bonomo’s career live-tournament earnings up to $31.9 million. Adding his Super High Roller Bowl winnings to the $4.8 million he won in the Super High Roller Bowl China in March, just over $1 million in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller in January and 13 other smaller cashes, Bonomo has already won $13.9 million in 2018.
