Ioannis Angelou-Konstas wins partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK main event

Ioannis Angelou-Konstas more than doubled his career live-poker earnings earlier this week by winning the main event at the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK.

The win was the second of the year for Angelou-Konstas, following a win in the World Poker Tour DeepStacks main event in Brussels back in March.

At the LIVE MILLIONS UK, Angelou-Konstas bested a 1,015-player field in the £5,300 No-Limit Hold’em tournament to cash £940,000, which is about $1.2 million US. The Greek poker pro’s career earnings now stand at just over $2.1 million.

To post the biggest win of his poker career so far, Angelou-Konstas had to face a formidable final table. Included in the final nine in the tournament were 2013 World Series of Poker main event winner Ryan Riess, WSOP bracelet winner Michael Wang, European Poker Tour champion Tom Hall, WPT champion Alex Foxen and Antoine Labat, who placed ninth in this year’s WSOP main event.

Angelou-Konstas vs Foxen heads-up

Angelou-Konstas entered the final table first in chips with a sizable chip lead on his opponents. When only two remained, it came down to Angelou-Konstas and Foxen heads-up for the tournament title.

At the outset of heads-up play, Angelou-Konstas was still well ahead in chips with 880 million to Foxen’s 132 million. Not surprisingly, the two worked out a deal. Angelou-Konstas would receive £840,000, Foxen would pocket £720,000 ($936,000 US), and an extra £100,000 would be up for grabs and go to the eventual winner of the tournament.

With their deal in place, heads-up play lasted only a few hands. With the blinds at 5 million/10 million, Foxen raised to 22 million from the button and Angelou-Konstas called. The flop showed Kd-Ad-4c. Angelou-Konstas checked and Foxen bet 13 million. Angelou-Konstas called and the turn card was the 3h. Both players checked to the river which was the 10s. Angelou-Konstas checked again and Foxen bet 46 million. After thinking it over, Angelou-Konstas pushed all-in and Foxen, after thinking it over for a long time, made the call. Angelou-Konstas showed Qc-Jh for an ace-high straight. Foxen had pocket eights which wasn’t good enough and eliminated him.
